Springers are self-employed companions who visit or call elderly clients to provide friendly conversation, light social activities, and a consistent, caring presence. They do not provide personal care or medical support.

Onboarding

How Sign-Up Works for Springers

A transparent, step-by-step journey from your initial application to active companion bookings.

  1. Application

    Submit a quick application with your experience, interests, and availability.

  2. Interview Call with SSC

    A structured call to understand who you are, your experience, and to confirm what a Springer does.

  3. Vetting Checks & Insurance

    Confirm two references (ideally one character reference and one prior care or companionship reference, verified by phone). We will guide you through applying for a Basic DBS check and Public Liability Insurance. Both are mandatory before starting.

  4. Agreement & Profile

    Sign the self-employment agreement confirming you set your own availability and fees within SSC's guidance. SSC will then build out your profile, highlighting personality, interests, and hobbies, used for client matching.

  5. Match Proposed

    When a potential client match arises, SSC proposes it to both sides. If both agree, SSC arranges an introductory video call, stays on to introduce everyone, and ensures both sides are comfortable before stepping back.

  6. Trial Visit Arranged

    SSC arranges a free trial visit, a short, low-key first meeting to ensure a great fit.

  7. Ongoing Bookings Begin

    If the trial goes well, SSC sets up your confirmed recurring visit schedule and you transition into active, ongoing bookings.

Self-Employment & Hours

Flexibility that fits your life.

Being a Springer means you are in charge. You are self-employed, with no rigid rotas and no employment relationship with Second Spring Companions, just genuine flexibility around the hours you choose to offer.

  • Springers are self-employed independent contractors, not employees of SSC.
  • You set your own hourly rates within SSC's guidance and agree them directly with clients.
  • Visit payments are made directly from clients to you. SSC does not process or invoice for your companionship hours.
  • Suggested starting commitment: 2-5 hours per week (flexible to grow).
  • You set your availability, mornings, afternoons, weekends. We share client preferences; accepting a match is always your choice.
  • Flexible, self-directed work with no pressure to take bookings that do not suit you.
